Video Training in Afghanistan

Greetings from Eastern Afghanistan, Jalalabad to be exact.  For the past few weeks as part of the Small World News team, in cooperation with Internews we have been teaching Video recording and editing techniques. Everything from the basics to the more advanced.  Our students are young Afghans with sometimes little experience to others who have done some photo or video work and are interested in improving their skills for future projects in journalism, film-making and beyond.

Our first workshops took place in the city of Herat, Western Afghanistan. A beautiful city with an extremely rich history as part of the ancient silk route, it also happens to be one of the more peaceful cities in this country.  In between teaching we also managed time to walk around and look at the historical sites as well as everyday life.

This week we begin in Jalalabad, economic engine of Afghanistan and the gateway to Pakistan. We’ve heard our students here are more experienced and in many cases, already busy with their own video projects. We intend to assess what areas they need help in and work from there.  With any luck by the end of the week there will be a class of students in Jalalabad ready to tackle new projects and great careers in video production.
